Serving Companies through Connection, Communication & Collaboration
I am a recovering perfectionist, leadership and career coach, corporate trainer and keynote speaker with a mission to enhance human connection and fulfillment at work and in life. Using positive psychology and my blueprint The Authenticity Guide, I provides critical “soft-skills” training to individuals, corporate and university teams.
As a graduate of Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, I deeply understand and focus on the 3 C’s of culture: connection, communication and collaboration. I am a Contributor to Forbes and have been featured in Business Insider. Some of my clients include Marriott, Lenovo, Cisco, Women Business Owners Network, Duke Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and more.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Economics (magna cum laude) from Brandeis University, and a Masters of Business Administration from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. I am credentialed as a strengths coach from The Marcus Buckingham Company through Cisco.
I’ve worked in a variety of industries throughout my life -- from corporate finance, to social impact consulting, and many industries in between. I struggled over the years to find a career that I was truly passionate about. I wanted to feel excited when my alarm clock went off in the morning. I never did.
After some years of deep introspection, and a commitment to therapy and coaching, I embraced a fact that I had been ignoring for a long time: my true strength and love is coaching. Coaching others to be the best versions of themselves. I had always "coached," whether it was colleagues, friends, bosses, or teams. I avoided calling myself a coach because I held preconceived beliefs about what constituted an "impressive" career. Being a coach didn't feel "impressive" enough, particularly after watching my Duke MBA classmates go on to accomplished careers in consulting and banking. These reductive ideas about career impressiveness seriously held me back from pursuing joy.
Through hard internal work, I was able to overcome my own limiting beliefs about my career. I launched my coaching firm, The Authenticity Guide, in 2018. I felt a pressing need for work to feel more human. What I’ve come to learn is that most business problems are because of people. And, many of these problems can be solved with the right human-centered approach: a return to connection, communication and collaboration. I now coach emerging leaders to thrive, and I myself have never been thriving more.
"We contacted Julia with only a vague idea of what we wanted- the opportunity for our small organization to reflect on themselves and each other as integral members of the team. Julia quickly got to the heart of what we needed, helped us reconceptualize our employee evaluation process, and planned a team day that far surpassed our expectations. Our staff has already asked when she is coming back. Partnering with The Authenticity Guide was one of the best decisions we've ever made for our staff." - Melissa Passarelli, Program Director, Docs for Tots
"I just wanted to say thank you for coming to the I&E Women's Conference. Your presentation was incredibly impactful for me and everyone else in the room. As a senior, I am currently applying for jobs and I cannot help but feel like an imposter. Before your talk, I felt as if I was the only one experiencing those feelings. I kept thinking that once I start my first job out of college, I will be found out and that my employers will realize their mistake in hiring me. After hearing how prevalent Imposter Syndrome is, it made me feel less alone and more confident in my abilities. It also felt liberating to be vulnerable with those around me after participating in your "If you really knew me..." exercise. It was a great experience getting to really know those around me. And thank you for getting real with us at the event, it was so refreshing and I wish you all the best with The Authenticity Guide, you are doing some amazing work and it will be nice to see more authentic people out in the world because of you." - Student, audience member
"I had the pleasure of having Julia speak on "Imposters Syndrome" at one of my events. Her command and breadth of knowledge on the subject had the entire audience sucked in. Personally I felt like she pulled the curtains back of my life during my time in corporate America and was talking directly to me. The way she drew the audience in and engaged everyone was simply a thing of beauty. Julia's session set the stage for some amazing dialogue directly after the presentation. I highly recommend bringing her in to speak to any organization." Ed Dudley, Founder of ConnectED
"We brought Julia in to conduct a remote webinar called "How to Successfully Navigate Newly Remote Work Environments (Without Going Crazy)." The quality of her content was extremely impressive, her style was dynamic and engaging, and our participants got a tremendous amount of value from her insights. I highly recommend partnering with Julia for this exceptional webinar -- you and your team will be happy you did!" - Tim Scales, Director of Growth, American Underground
"My group coaching experience with Julia was wonderful. I was nervous about it at first, but after meeting the 3 other women it made me feel less so. We quickly became a team, and each week inspired each other to move forward with our own personal goals. Julia has the notable gift of listening and providing such warm and earnest feedback. I feel richer for knowing her and the three other women. And I feel full from recognizing my goals and taking the strides to achieve them."
